0. Syntax:

Basic word order is OSV.

Adjectives, adverbs and other descriptors and stuff usually come after the word they are associated with.

1. Verbs:

The infinitive of a verb also works as present indicative in any person.

Verbs are nounified with -eri.

There is no copula.

2. Nouns:

2.1. Plural

Plural suffix is -ät.

2.2. Cases

  • nominative: -(empty)
  • accusative: -ot
  • genitive: -as
  • inessive: -ah

The accusative case also works as a case to mention the topic of something, i.e. equivalent to the English preposition "about".

The genitive case is attached to the thing that is owned, not to the owner.

If the cased word ends in a consonant, consonant gradation applies. If it ends in a short vowel, the vowel is simply replaced by the suffix.

2.3. Combining the cases

Cases can be combined. This means that an already cased word can be cased further to create more accurate meanings. For example, a locative case + the accusative case means movement into that location.

As the genitive is put on the thing that is owned, being able to combine the genitive with other cases is important.

Consonant gradation applies.

2.4. Tense

The tense of a clause is attached to the subject.

  • past tense: ëgh-
  • future tense: äng-

Vowel harmony applies.

3. Adjectives

The comparative suffix for an adjective is -h. This suffix triggers vowel modification (see vowel harmony), even though it does not contain modified vowels.

With colors, the comparative form means deeper/darker color.

4. Consonant gradation:

Consonant gradation happens like this (weak/strong):

  • s/n
  • p/b
  • h/gh
  • l/r
  • t/d
  • m/mm

Most words end in a weak consonant. Adding any suffix immediately after a weak consonant fortifies it.

5. Vowel harmony:

Vowel harmony has two sides:

  • a e i o u ("pure")
  • ä ë ï ö ü ("modified")

Adding a suffix with modified vowels next to a syllable with pure vowels within the same word causes the pure vowels to get modified. This has no effect on more distant syllables.

Adding a suffix with pure vowels next to a syllable with modified vowels changes nothing.
